The Telecommunications Authority, established with the Law No:4502 on 27 January 2000 in order to perform the regulatory and supervision duties in the electronic communication sector was restructured with the Electronic Communication Law No. 5809 on November 10, 2008 and changed its name to Information Technology and Communication Authority (BTK).

BTK, in addition to its tasks in the electronic communication sector, is primarily responsible for the duties assigned by the Electronic Signature Act enacted on January 15, 2004, the tasks related to the registered Electronic Mail Service within the framework of amendments to the Turkish Commercial Code numbered 6102 dated 13 January 2011, and the duties assigned by the Postal Services Law numbered 6102 and dated 23 May 2016 related to the authorization and supervision of Postal Services.

On the other hand, with the Decree Law No. 671 published in the Official Gazette dated 17 August 2016, critical tasks have been given to the BTK to provide cyber security and to increase the cyber capacity. BTK has the critical mission to make smart transport systems safer against cyber threats and to take the necessary precautions against cyberattacks that threaten national security.

Within the scope of the activities carried out for the development and dissemination of the intelligent transport systems in our country, many regulations in the field of electronic communications sector was already made by BTK, and BTK will take the any action to provide the necessary framework needed for the dissemination of the intelligent transport systems.
